Live from Disney... 5:28 PM

We may not be at Disney anymore, but that doesn't mean we can't have one final Live from Disney update! This past week was a whirlwind of new friends, group activities, snack breaks, tons of laughter, educational discussions, inspirational presentations, and overall just a good time.

With over 150 new interns from the West to the East Coast and covering the Central Region in between, we all met together in sunny Orlando for 6 days and 5 nights of what is known as the most coveted week of the year. As a first time TIC participant myself, I had high expectations. Every single one of those expectations was either met or surpassed. Protiviti not only hires some of the best facilitators but the best interns as well, and it is obvious once you're around this large group of differing yet similar personalities.

Whether you have a D, i, S, or C profile (google DiSC Assessment), you learn how to work with each other and respect the varying qualities. Protiviti is about teamwork, and if there's one thing that you come away with after this week, it should be that we can all come together to better ourselves, each other, and the work that we are learning to do so well here!

Intern Class of 2014
We've officially ended The Intern Challenge of 2014 and I could not be more excited, exhausted, and enthusiastic about the coming up summer. With this, I wrap up our Live from Disney updates, but don't forget to check back for more blogs that focus on our summer office activities. After all, it may be the end of The Intern Challenge but it's still the beginning of the internship. Over and out.

Australia Bound!

Koala bears, kangaroos, Nemo…oh my!  Australia is a continent that many people dream of visiting, but rarely have a chance to explore.  The Dallas office is excited to announce that Rebekah Cutrell, a Technology Senior Consultant, will be packing her bags and flying over 16 hours to The Land Down Under in July!

Rebekah won this once in a lifetime trip because she took advantage of Protiviti’s employee referral program.  She recruited one of her college friends to work for Protiviti by sharing with him all of the great things about our company and how much she has enjoyed her job.   Her stellar recruiting skills will now allow her to visit the famous Gold Coast, go whale watching, chill out on the white beaches, hold a real-life koala bear, and eat at delicious local restaurants with friends!

Let this success story motivate you to work hard so that you can take full advantage of Protiviti’s incentives!

Last night, one of our project teams introduced their Intern to the glamorous lifestyle of consulting. After her first day on a project in Los Angeles, California the team found themselves exploring the city and in front of the Chinese Theater on the Walk of Fame. While, not all first days end in stardom, a few do and we are pleased to have rolled out the red carpet on this engagement.

Escape The Room!

Last night, the New York Office had their first Intern event at Escape the Room NYC, where video game meets real life fun! Escape the Room locks people behind a closed door for 60 minutes and asks them to find a way out. There are puzzles to solve and codes to crack in order to get the key that lets you out. They found themselves racing against the clock, trying to decipher clues necessary to reveal the combination for a lock; which opens a chest holding more clues that leads to a mystery, within a mystery, within another mystery... The door is opened after an hour if the players can’t solve their way out, but our interns last night were able to successfully use their logical thinking skills and put the puzzle pieces together!

We had six teams for this event, including interns and full-time consultants, participating in three unique rooms. Unfortunately, two out of the six teams didn’t get out before their time ran out, but despite a 20% escape rate, the other four beat the game! Intern Timothy Bonk quoted this event as being “very stimulating and challenging,” while fellow intern Anna Furbish said it “definitely exceeded her expectations, as she was challenged, but had an amazing time with her fellow Protiviti peers.” After, interns celebrated their victory (or their fellow peers’), and the excitement was almost palpable. It was a very fun evening, and they wish they could do it all over again! It was a great day to be a Protiviti Intern.

Opening Intern Events - A Great Success!

This week was an exciting week for our 2014 Intern Class as they finally made their way to their local offices! I’m thrilled to see the Intern’s settling in and happy to have received some awesome feedback about their week thus far. Last night, the Boston, DC Metro and Philadelphia offices all celebrated the arrival of the Interns with opening events which looked to be so much fun! So much fun in fact, that I have been brought to a whole new level of FOMO (fear of missing out)!

Let’s start up in Boston! The Boston Interns enjoyed Happy Hour at Tia’s on Thursday evening where they were able to network with their local office. As the group grew larger, a musical chair-like rotation seemed to occur which helped the Interns to meet different people! Intern, Jin Lee, quotes “"Everyone in the Boston office is always full of energy, even after 8 hours of work! I love how close everyone in the office is, which helps me to 'blend in' and become a part of the team. We went to a place called Tia's for happy hour and I had a blast eating and talking with everyone.” Intern, Juliana Bahring, stated It was really nice to have the opportunity to meet everyone from the office in a social setting, and not just the people who I’ve been working closely with!” I think it’s safe to say that Boston enjoyed their opening event!

Further down South, the DC Metro Interns enjoyed at “Meet n’ Greet” Happy Hour at Coastal Flats on Thursday evening where I hear the food was just DE-licious. Intern, Grace Brassell, told me “last night was a blast! I met a lot of awesome people from the DC Office including MD George Brown”.  MD Gary Callaghan also joined the festivities on Thursday evening along with a great showing from the practice!

Last stop: Philadelphia! The Philadelphia Interns and 15 members of the practice headed over to Lucky Strike to test out their bowling skills. Intern Jacklin Altman recapped the evening to me stating that she had a “great time with great coworkers” and mentioned that although she was off to a rough start in her lane, her advisor, Maeve Raak, was a huge positive presence cheering her on!  However, despite Maeve’s optimistic spirit, I hear it was Team Wilkes that came out with the “W”. Way to go Team Wilkes!

All 7 of the Philadelphia Interns at Lucky Strike!
A special thanks to all those who were able to attend the opening events for the Interns this week across the nation! We have an amazing class this year and we’re excited for you all to continue to get to know the Interns.

After a whirlwind week at The Intern Challenge, Protiviti’s interns are settling into their local markets! From attending networking events, to connecting with the career advisors, to getting down to real world work at the client-site, the West Region Interns share some recent highlights of their summer internship at Protiviti!

The Intern Challenge

“Florida was such an amazing week and experience. I met so many great interns, facilitators, and executives. After seeing my fellow West interns every day for a week I’m happy to say they are not just fellow interns but they are my friends.” Shannon, Los Angeles Intern

Interns Subha, Shannon and Karina take a selfie with Joe Tarantino at the Salsa Contest!

The First Week of Client Work

“My first week in San Francisco has been fulfilling to say the least. From day one, I jumped right into an ongoing engagement and started leveraging what I learned from The Intern Challenge to help get myself grounded. Shout out to my facilitator, Kevin, for teaching us which questions to ask and what to look for when joining a team. From there, I had the amazing opportunity to join a R&C leadership lunch with Jim Pajakowski on my left and Tim Long on my right. The transparency with Protiviti’s leadership definitely goes beyond Orlando’s training. Finally, I have to admit that besides working with fun, high-performing people in San Francisco, I’ve come to find there are too many great eats in this city!” - Shyla, San Francisco Bay Area Intern

“In my first week, I worked at the client site, sat in on a meeting with the client’s C-suite, met with some amazing mentors and consultants, went to the San Francisco office, and enjoyed bowling with fellow Protiviti employees after work. My week was jam-packed and I wouldn’t have it any other way!” - Subha, San Francisco Bay Area Intern

ProSOX Season Opener - Game Recap!

Last night, the DC Metro Office had their first softball game of the season and the ProSOX came out hard.  Attendance was strong as Managing Director, Gary “G$” Callaghan, and Associate Director, Bob “H@cker” Blakley, were both present at Ossian Hall Park ready to go with their game-face on. Even the new team mascot, Murphy, Beth Boyle’s adorable yellow lab made it out to the stadium to see the ProSOX season opener. Strong efforts were seen by Jay Feinman who hit a home-run and Keenan Lofton who carried the team in the outfield. Dubbed as “MVI” (Most Valuable Intern), Theo Daubresse, also had a solid showing last night as he drove in some runs and even dove to catch a foul ball! In an effort to avoid any embarrassment, I will not disclose whether or not that ball was actually caught…

Intern, Meredith Johnson, was interviewed after the game and quotes, “Unfortunately, we lost, but we were definitely the better dressed team.” And of course, we all know this is what truly matters!  The team has a promising season ahead of them and they are looking forward to their next game on Tuesday, July 15th. GO PROSOX!

A special thank-you to Meredith Johnson for the full-game recap!
